- Bangladeshis & Maldivians: Can get a visa in advance or upon arrival.

While complete visa applications are usually processed within five days, allow extra time for potential delays.
Yes, all guests are required to possess comprehensive, valid travel insurance for the entirety of their stay in Bhutan.
All international tourists to Bhutan, Indians included, are mandated to be accompanied by a certified Bhutanese tour guide or travel agency. This requirement, enforced by the government, is designed to safeguard the well-being of tourists and to foster responsible tourism practices in Bhutan.
The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a daily charge imposed on visitors to aid in Bhutan's advancement.
This includes providing free healthcare, educational and training programs, enhance in the tourism and hospitality sectors, upgrading infrastructure, and supporting environmental conservation efforts.
Sustainable Development Fee (SDF):
- Most visitors pay a daily fee to help support Bhutan's development (except Indian nationals).
- Adults: US$100 per night.
- Children (6-11 years old): US$50 per night.
- Children under 6: Free.
- Indian nationals pay a different fee in Bhutanese currency (Nu.) or Indian rupees (INR).
- Adults: Nu. 1,200 (or equivalent INR) per night.
- Children (6-11 years old): Nu./INR 600 per night.
- Children under 6: Free.
Tourists visiting Samtse, Phuentsholing, Gelephu, and Samdrupjongkhar for less than 24 hours are exempt from the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) until April 14, 2024.
Here's the catch: This waiver only applies if you stay within the designated areas of these towns. If you venture beyond these zones (e.g., Gurung Basti in Samtse or Rinchending Checkpost in Phuentsholing), the SDF will apply.
If your trip to Bhutan gets cancelled or shortened, you can get a refund for the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), but with a few things to keep in mind:
- Refund Process: Apply online through the visa portal (https://visit.doi.gov.bt/) after you leave Bhutan.
- Deductions: Any bank charges will be deducted from the refunded amount.
Basically, you'll get most of your SDF back, but not immediately.
Extending Your Bhutan Visa:
- In-Person Application: You must visit the Department of Immigration in person to extend your visa.
- Payment Methods:
- All other Visitors: Pay the extension fee in US Dollars (USD).
- Indian Nationals: Pay the extension fee in Indian Rupees (INR).
