Arrive in Paro, Bhutan, where you’ll be greeted by the majestic Himalayan peaks and the serene ambiance of this mystical kingdom. After clearing customs, embark on a scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Along the way, stop at Tamchog Lhakhang Iron Bridge, believed to have been built by the revered Tibetan saint Thangtong Gyalpo. Continue your journey to Thimphu and check into your hotel. Spend the evening at leisure, acclimating to the enchanting atmosphere of Bhutan.
Today, you’ll be transferred to Punakha. En route, stop at the popular Dochula Pass, where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas and explore the 108 memorial chortens. Continue your drive to Punakha. Upon arrival, visit the renowned Chimi Lhakhang temple, also known as the Fertility Temple, dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley. The temple is accessible via a scenic 30-minute walk through rice fields and traditional villages. The serene surroundings and the temple’s unique history make this a memorable experience. Afterward, you can explore more of Punakha or relax at your hotel.
After a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, drive to the trailhead for Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Enjoy a scenic 1.5-hour hike to this stunning temple, which offers panoramic views of the Punakha Valley. After visiting the temple, follow the Mo Chhu River to Chorten Ningpo Shedra, a serene monastic school. On your return, visit the iconic Punakha Dzong, the only fort in Punakha. Explore its unique interior, including beautiful murals and intricate woodwork, and learn about its historical and religious significance. The Dzong, situated at the confluence of two rivers, is a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture.
Today, after a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, embark on a scenic drive to the Phobjikha Valley, the winter home of the endangered, Black-necked cranes. The journey offers picturesque views of the countryside and lush landscapes. Upon arrival, visit the historic Gangtey Goemba, an important monastery of the Nyingma school of Buddhism. Explore the temple, learning about its religious significance and history. Afterward, enjoy a one-hour hike through rich pine forests along the Gangtey Nature Trail. This gentle trek provides stunning panoramic views of the valley, opportunities to spot wildlife, and a chance to experience the tranquil beauty of Phobjikha. The serene environment and the valley’s natural splendor make this hike a memorable part of your visit. After the hike, spend some time exploring the valley or visiting the Crane Information Center to learn more about the conservation efforts for the Black-necked cranes. After your visit, drive towards Paro, enjoying the scenic journey through Bhutan’s picturesque landscapes. En route, stop at the newly renovated Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. This historic fortress offers stunning views of the valley and the river below, and its recent renovations highlight the Dzong’s architectural beauty. Explore the Dzong and learn about its significance in Bhutanese history and culture. After this enriching visit, continue your drive to Paro. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax. If time permits, you can explore Paro town, visiting local shops and cafes. Make an early start from your hotel today as the hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang, takes around 5 to 6 hours round trip. Begin your ascent with the cool morning air providing a refreshing start. The trail winds through pine forests, with colorful prayer flags fluttering along the path. Halfway up, take a break at the cafeteria, which offers breathtaking views of the monastery clinging to the cliffside. Continue your hike, reaching the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery perched 900 meters above the Paro Valley.
Explore the monastery’s sacred temples, and marvel at its stunning architecture and the legends surrounding its establishment. After spending some time soaking in the spiritual ambiance and panoramic views, begin your descent. Upon returning to the base, you can enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Spend the afternoon at leisure, perhaps visiting Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, before heading back to your hotel to rest.
